Abstract

The traditional beliefs of Chuvash people were the system of beliefs that the central in this was the worship of God (Tengri), and this had been a belief system of Turkic people before converting other religions. There were beliefs of good and bad spirits, Earth-Water spirits, and life of the hereafter in this system, and also it carried nearly the entire characters of ancient Turkic beliefs. However, as the times goes on, there were some interactions between the names of beings, who were subjects of these beliefs and Islam and Christianity. In this paper, I will dwell upon a subject of traditional religious beliefs of Chuvash people more than Chuvash relationships between Islam and Christianity, since it can throw fresh light on history of Turkish religion.
